Fat bikes can handle anything, so we love them for winter trail riding. Riders, however, really hate pouring rain and 33 degrees, so we pulled the plug on Peanut Roll 7 last Sunday. God loves us and wants us to be happy, of course, so when the NFL flexed the Bills-Steelers game to Sunday night, we knew it was a sign.

It gave us the perfect opening to reschedule for December 15th. Meet at 1pm. Ride at 1:30. Hospitality tent at the Barn. Afterparty back at The Rock Kitchen and Bar.

We are calling this one Peanut Roll 7.1. The description of the original event continues below:

We wanted to do a Peanut Roll for Global Fat Bike Day, and we are, though after consulting the Bills Schedule we took the liberty of moving the ride date up to Sunday December 1st.

Peanut Rolls are fun, slow-rolling group rides in support of the community effort to open this public space to human powered transportation. We’ll be riding roughly 5.5 miles predominantly graded, grassy trail along the right-of-way of the former Canandaigua-Niagara Falls Railway (aka the “peanut line”).

We can ride almost the entire Peanut Line Trail as it exists today. There is one section that will require a detour onto adjacent roadways, and when we reach the Ellicott Creek Trailway we’ll mass-up for refreshments before the return ride.

We’re grateful to have The Rock as a host venue for these events. They will have great drink specials for our riders, and they’ve been a great location for us as they are right on the Clarence side of the peanut line, so please show them some love.

A few notes for riders. This will be a self-supported ride, so please make sure your bike is in good condition, fit for an off-road ride and you have a spare tube and tools in the event of a flat.

There will be sections where you will have to dismount your bike, and there will be unmarked road crossings, so be alert and please keep with the group. As always, please call out hazards and use hand signals to communicate. Finally, we will be observing vehicle and traffic laws whenever on roadways.

It’s a Fat Bike ride but all bikes are welcome. The wider the tire the more enjoyable this ride will be.

Don’t own a fat bike yet? Rent one! Tom’s Pro Bike has a special $25 rental special for the event, and they are donating all monies collected on rentals to the WNYMBA trail fund.

Fat Bike Rentals need to be done in advance by calling Tom’s Pro bike shop at 716.688.2453. Mention you are renting for the Global Fat Bike Peanut Roll.

Remember, by participating in this ride you will be representing the cycling community. We are here to be positive and supportive, and respectful of neighboring properties that adjoin the trail. Please conduct yourselves with positivity – and enjoy the ride!
